2005 |
Comprehensively
Clarice Cliff by Greg Slater and Jonathan Brough is
a collection of over 2000 ceramic pieces, patterns and backstamps.
It is the first large-scale color reference or “Atlas” concerned
with the A. J. Wilkinson and Newport potteries, and the
work of Clarice Cliff over four decades of pottery from the 1920’s to
the 1950’s. It also
recognizes John Butler and Dolly Cliff, Wilkinson designers who
contributed ideas to Clarice. |
| Greg Slater is editor of the magazine for Clarice Cliff
collectors, The Agora. This
“Atlas”, with the help of Jonathan Brough and others is the
result of detailed research into the output of Clarice Cliff and the
Wilkinson Pottery. It is
derived from the Wilkinson archives and from oral testimonies of
surviving employees. It is
truly a beautiful, colorful and comprehensive documentation of the work
of Clarice Cliff and work from the A. J. Wilkinson and
Newport
potteries. |
